3 Easy Ways To Transition To Sober Living At Lakewood Recovery

A few tips to beginning your new narrative.

1.     Keep an open mind and a positive attitude – Set aside everything you think you know about sober living. Whether you’re coming out of a 30, 60, or 90 day treatment center, you're now going from dry dock to back into the ocean. It’s exciting! You have an opportunity to set a new tone for your life. You have the ability to change who you are and what your all about. You get to take the hardships of your past and make those your biggest assets.

2.     Own The Day – Generally we have lots of time on our hands when we first get to sober living. Maybe you’ve decided you are going to take another month off work -maybe you don’t have a job to return to immediately – Take this time to explore new activities. We all know by now that happiness has never been derived from how much money we have or what kind of job we have – it's derived from within. A lot of our clients come in having no hobbies. We say find something new and dive in.

3.     Check Your Ego At The Door  – We are all works in progress over here. It's time to forgive and move on from our past selves. One of my favorite sayings is “ no man ever steps in the same river twice, for it is not the same river and he is not the same man”.  It's time to embrace the idea that I am not the same person that did those things in the past. Here, right now, I am a uniquely different human being with a different mindset.   We are shaped by the experiences we have had and you have the right to be the man you want to be. By making the decision to come to Lakewood Recovery, you are already demonstrating the desire to change. We’re not in the business of self-pity over here. We are all about growth. You have an opportunity to become whoever you want so don’t hesitate, GET AFTER IT!
